France: Why is the debate always about redistribution and not primary income inequality?
There is currently a lot of talk in France about social justice, tax justice and redistribution, while insufficient thought is given to the costs of greater redistribution (a higher tax burden, job destruction). Would it not be better to first examine the causes of primary income inequality (before redistribution) and then try to correct these causes? A comparison of OECD countries shows a very significant link between primary income inequality on the one hand and, on the other, the employment rate, skills (which also have a significant effect on the employment rate) and the quality of the education system.
