France: Why structural unemployment is unfortunately likely to rise

We fear that the COVID crisis will drive up structural unemployment in France for several reasons: The shift in the sectoral structure of the economy, given the difficulty of moving workers from struggling sectors to growing sectors; The fall in labour productivity due to the new public health regulations, as long as they remain in place; Companies’ search for low-production-cost locations, which could trigger a fresh wave of offshoring in France.
