Germany : CDU elects new leader
The CDU chose Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer (AKK) at today’s party convention as the successor of chancellor Merkel as chairwoman of the CDU. As a close ally of chancellor Merkel, AKK is unlikely to challenge the political status quo. This result consequently implies a certain degree of stability for the grand coalition government in Berlin and a diminished overall political uncertainty in Germany .
