How beneficial are low oil prices for French activity?

The coronavirus crisis has signaled the beginning of a severe recession in Europe (see here ). Lockdown measures implemented across the world have resulted in a fall in global demand for hydrocarbons, leading prices to collapse to historic lows. This fall in oil prices may be beneficial for French activity via three important mechanisms: an improvement in the trade balance, a boost to supply and a boost to demand.
