How has capitalism evolved?
We characterise the evolution of capitalism in the United States and the euro zone by: The trend in income distribution between wages and profits; The trend in risk sharing between wage earners and companies in crises; The trend in returns to shareholders; The use of leverage. We find, then, that since the end of the 1980s: Income distribution and risk sharing have been transformed at the expense of wage earners; Returns to shareholders have increased in the United States; Leverage is used more by companies.
