How much higher will euro-zone inflation be at the start of 2024?

Euro-zone inflation hit a low point in November 2023 (2.4%). But the apparent disinflation is only the result of a fall in import prices and in profit margins. We look at how base effects on the prices of imported goods and services and profit margins will evolve, and from this we derive a forecast for headline inflation at the end of the first quarter of 2024. By that date (March 2024), we expect headline inflation in the euro zone to be 4.3%.
