How realistic is the 2030 energy consumption target for the French economy?

France has announced the goal of carbon neutrality by 2050 . There are several channels through which this target can be reached. W e are focusing on this report on the contribution from energy efficiency . We built our analysis on a three-factor production function to evaluate the feasibility for France to reach its energy consumption target . France has committed to reduce its final energy consumption by 20%, compared to the 2012 level, by 2030. We find that the energy efficiency is a crucial factor. If energy efficiency continues to grow at the average rate observed in the last ten years, the energy consumption target will not be reached. Considerable improvements in energy efficiency are required alongside with higher labour and capital productivity.
