Inflation in the euro zone will be higher in the future than between 2002 and 2007

Beyond the debate on the short-term direction of inflation and interest rates in the eurozone, a very important question is the medium-term level of inflation, which will determine the level of nominal and real interest rates. We believe that a number of factors will lead to higher inflation in the future than between 2002 and 2007 (when inflation averaged 2.2 %). These are: Rising energy prices; A tighter labour market; Declining productivity gains; In total, the transition from a situation of insufficient demand to a situation of insufficient supply of goods and services.
