Is debt in France a concern?

Whereas household and corporate debt ratios have fallen in the euro-zone countries other than France, they have risen markedly in France since the 2008-2009 crisis . Is th is cause for concern? Should banks’ macroprudential rules be tightened? The rise in French corporate debt stems from acquisitions and cash holdings , and not investment, which is a concern; The rise in French household debt st ems from mortgage debt, not consumer loans, and from hous ing purchases in volume and not value terms, which is reassuring. I t therefore seems that the rise in private sector debt in France is a concern when it comes to companies but not households.
