Is the euro zone making a particular effort to reduce its CO2 emissions?

We look at trends in fossil fuel consumption and CO 2 emissions in the euro zone. We seek to determine whether the euro zone has made a particular effort to reduce its CO 2 emissions, or whether they result from changes in real GDP and in fossil fuel prices in the same way as in the past. One could hope that the euro zone has actually changed its behaviour of using fossil fuel s in a positive direction. We see that since 2014, fossil fuel consumption in the euro zone has increased by two percentage points less per year than what corresponds to past behaviour, which is reassuring.
