Is the trough of this "recessionary mini-cycle" behind us?
Since the start of 2018 there has been what we call a " recessionary mini-cycle" in OECD countries : a slowdown in growth, combined with an industrial recession. We seek to determine whether the trough of this mini-cycle is already behind us by looking at the most cyclical components of demand and production: Car sales; Demand for industrial capital goods; Exports; Residential construction, and by looking at China’s situation (in particular Chinese imports), which has played a major role in the cyclical slowdown in global trade and activity in the OECD. We see that there is a stabilisation or an improvement everywhere, except as regards production of capital goods in the OECD.
