Italie: Toeing the line
Euro area Member States submitted their 2020 draft budgets to the European Commission in mid-October as scheduled. The Italian draft budget was by far the most eagerly awaited. After the standoff between the Five Star-League coalition and Brussels last year , the new Five Star-Democratic Party government has toed the line from the outset. Overall, the objectives comply with the European rules, but there are still questions on the execution of this draft budget, which is based on a relatively optimistic macroeconomic scenario .
