Low-cost “peripheral” countries are fortunate

We use the term "peripheral countries" for countries neighbouring a large economic area. The fierce global competition to attract or maintain industrial production together with deflationary threats are driving: Western Europe to offshore industrial production to Central European countries, where production costs are lower; China to offshore production to South Asian countries, where production costs are lower and which are exempt from US customs duties. We therefore see that "peripheral" countries with low wage costs, CEEC and South Asia are “fortunate”.
