Medical risks and household behaviour – What real time indicators say #18

In this report we show the progress of hospital data in France in recent weeks. Not surprisingly, these developments match with the new virus circulation map that was presented last Wednesday. We also provide an initial overview of the evolution of French behaviour in terms of mobility in the face of rising risks and the emergence, still localized, of hospital tensions. New hospitalizations : acceleration was particularly strong in the PACA region: the number of new hospitalizations (per 100,000 inhabitants) is twice as high as for France as a whole. Same uptrend in Île de France as in the Rhône department. The latest figures indicate an acceleration of new hospitalizations in PACA and in the Rhône. Number of people in intensive care : the situation at the national level shows a growing but limited tension in the number of people in intensive care for Covid-19. But again, the risks are concentrated in certain regions or departments. In mainland France, the situation is the most delicate in PACA, in the Rhône department. Behaviour and medical risk : how did the French react to the deterioration of the situation and the new measures of health restrictions implemented in two stages during the last few weeks? The solemn calls for individual responsibility seem to have been heard, to some extent— Using Facebook data, on mobility calculated from GPS data emitted by the application, it appears that since September 20 th the French are more likely to stay at home. This change in behaviour is all the more marked in the departments most affected.
