MIXED MIDTERMS RESULT

Edito The main event of the week, the American midterm elections ended up with a result that had been broadly anticipated: the Democrats took the House of Representatives while the Republicans increased their majority in the Senate. This new divided Congress, which will assume its functions on January 3, could rein in the Trump administrations reforms. Investors are nonetheless wondering about the United States trade policy, particularly with China, while the President has several prerogatives to restrict trade exchanges. Thursday evening, the FOMC meeting was a non-event: the Fed left its rates unchanged, as expected. The tone of the press release doesn’t hold any surprises either: in it, the central bank emphasizes labor market solidity, vigorous activity and stable inflation.
