Objectively, what is the situation of employees in France?
A vast majority of the French are now demanding an increase in purchasing power. We will therefore look at wage formation in France: can we see an anomaly in this wage formation that would result in excessively low wages? We first look at the average wage, its trend compared with that in productivity, and its level (and therefore the level of profitability): on this point we cannot see any anomaly indicating that the average wage is too low; But the average wage can be skewed by the trend in high wages; we must also look at the median wage and the minimum wage. We then see that the median wage has actually risen more slowly than the average wage, but that the minimum wage has risen faster than the average wage. But even if the median wage has risen less than the average wage, it has risen in line with labour productivity growth. All things considered, increasing wages is not the right method to increase purchasing power.
