Pressure on labour markets: Macroeconomic problem or sectoral mismatch?

The high level of hiring difficulties in the United States and the euro zone shows that the pressure on labour markets is strong. This strong pressure on labour markets can have two causes : A macroeconomic cause (excess overall labour demand over overall labour supply); A microeconomic cause : a sectoral mismatch: the structure of the labour supply by skills and employees' wishes do not correspond to the sectoral structure of employment needs. Let us look at the overall labour supply and demand, and the trend in the sectoral structure of jobs and in sectoral wages. We can conclude that: The macroeconomic origin of labour market pressure dominates in the United States; The microeconomic origin dominates in the euro zone.
