Recent trends in Sino-US trade

Foreign trade between the United States and China depends on: Demand growth in both countries, which determines their imports; Both countries’ competitiveness, which determines their exports; Barriers to trade (tariffs, nationalism among consumers), which may affect imports. In the recent period, we have seen: A cyclical slowdown in both countries; A deterioration in China’s competitiveness; And an anomaly - probably linked to the trade war - in US exports to China, which have fallen sharply, whereas US imports from China show no anomaly .
