Since 2008, the dollar's role as an international financial currency has increased while the euro’s role has declined

We can measure the dollar's and the euro’s role as international financial currencies by their weight in: Central banks' foreign exchange reserves; International bond issuance and international loans; Foreign exchange market trading . We can then see a decline in the weight of the euro since 2008-2009. How can this be explained? Probably by: The sharp depreciation of the euro against the dollar; The abnormally low euro interest rates; Recurrent concern about the euro zone’s solidity.
