Skills are becoming increasingly important over time

Over time: Technology has become more complex; Emerging countries’ technological level has increased; Competition between cou ntries has become stronger. This should normally mean that labour force skills are becoming an increasingly important explanatory factor in the employment rate and in keeping production in the country. We will therefore compare employment rates and labour force skills for OECD countries across different periods. This comparison shows a sharp increase, in the most recent period 2010-2018 compared with previous periods, in the sensitivity of the employment rate to skills.
