Social mobility and the role of the education system
We show that there is a strong correlation between: Social mobility, measured by the correlation of earnings between fathers and sons; The ability of the education system to reduce social inequalities, measured by the gap in mathematics scores in the 2022 PISA survey between socially privileged and socially disadvantaged children. Increasing social mobility, which is a determinant of the employment rate and therefore of the level of production and income, therefore requires an education system that does not increase inequalities.
