Tests and hospitalisations in France – What real time indicators say #17
With the resurgence of the epidemic and the appearance of a second wave in France, a number of questions arise as to the severity of the health crisis. This week, we have chosen to take stock of developments in France. First, we look at the state of the epidemic with the number of positive tests reaching a record of more than 13,000 this weekend. Several ratios are interesting in order to measure the seriousness of the situation: the positivity rate which increases significantly to more than 6% in recent days, the incidence rate which follows the same trend and being the highest around Paris, Marseille and Lyon and the reproduction rate R0 which tends to decrease but still slightly above 1 in France. We also provide an update on hospital admissions and intensive care in France . The majority of the current number of hospitalizations is located in the Ile de France and the PACA region (more than 12 hospitalized persons per 100,000 inhabitants on 20 September). To date, 5819 people are hospitalized in France. After very high levels at the beginning of April (7000 intensive cares in total), the number of intensive care s now seems to be reawakening since recent weeks (more than 800 resuscitation to date). Finally, we take a close look at the Paris area . The rate of positivity is much higher among young people (20-29 years old ) than among seniors (60-69 years old ), whereas it was almost similar until early August 2020. On the other hand, the number of people in intensive care is much higher in the upper age groups (227 people over 50 years old in total in the Ile de France).
