The exception that confimrs the rule: Final approval for the Iberian mechanism
On 8 June 2022, the European Commission accepted the gas price adjustment mechanism requested by the Spanish and Portuguese governments. This measure, implemented on 14 June 2022, is temporary and will remain in force until 31 May 2023. It allows to cap the price of gas used as an input by power plants in order to lower the price of electricity on the Iberian wholesale market (MIBEL).
