The global macroeconomic context (rising commodity prices and interest rates) means that the two key features of emerging countries today are: Their situation with regard to energy and other commodities: are they exporters or importers of energy and commodities? Whether their external debt level is low or high. The emerging countries in the most difficult situation are clearly those that import both energy and commodities and have large external debt. Among the countries we are studying , this applies to Egypt, Bangladesh, Mozambique, Morocco, Pakistan, Tunisia, Turkey, Sri Lanka and Senegal.
