The US labour market has deteriorated considerably
For the past 20 years in the United States we have seen: A downward trend in the participation rate and the employment rate; Increasing hiring difficulties. This is not explained by a decline in labour demand, since income distribution has become skewed against employees and there are increasing hiring difficulties, but probably by a deterioration in the labour force's skills and employability. The consequences are serious for the United States: Decline in potential growth; Rising income inequality and poverty; Political tensions.
