There must be current-account imbalances

In its External Sector Report, the International Monetary Fund criticises the presence of current-account imbalances and suggests that they should be reduced. We believe this approach is erroneous. The fact that there are external surpluses or deficits is optimal, provided that: They are consistent with the different regions’ demographic situation and income level, which is not the case; They give rise to international capital flows that represent long - term capital and no t procyclical , short-term capital flows.
