What accounts for France's rising employment rate?

The employment rate in France has risen from 62% in 1995 to 68% in 2023. What accounts for this rise in the employment rate? We look at the employment rate while distinguishing between: Men and women; Age brackets (15 to 29, 30 to 54, 55 to 59, 60 to 64). We can see that the rise in the employment rate in France since 1995 is due to the rise in the employment rate for women (aged 15 to 64) and for men aged 55 to 64. We compare the origin of the rise in the employment rate in France with that of the employment rate in Germany. Germany’s employment rate has risen by almost 10 percentage points more than France’s employment rate from 2006 to 2023. This is because the employment rate for women aged between 30 and 64 and for men aged between 60 and 64 has risen more sharply in Germany than in France.
