What does an observation of the link between CO2 emissions, GDP and per capita GDP in different regions tell us?
We are dividing the world into the United States, the European Union, China, Asian emerging countries other than China (including India), Africa, Latin America and Mexico and Japan. For each region we compare: Per capita CO 2 emissions and per capita real GDP; Growth in CO 2 emissions and real GDP growth. This shows that the main problems are: The strong link between standard of living and CO 2 emissions: the catch-up in the standard of living increases CO 2 emissions; The limited progress in reducing CO 2 emissions in emerging countries other than China.
