What environment will European companies face in the coming years?

We consider the main features of the environment for European companies in the coming years. We believe that, in different areas, they will be: Public policies to help companies invest , in a drive to reindustrialise despite the challenges; Strong pressure for the distribution of income and wealth accumulation to tilt more in favour of wage earners ; The e nergy transition: major constraints to decarbonise production, rising energy prices, capital destruction; accordingly, a rise in inequality; Continued expansionary monetary policy, leading to a weak constraint to reduce fiscal deficits, low interest rates and the continued rise in asset (corporate) valuations; A number of structural disruptions after COVID: working from home, e-commerce, rejection of some arduous jobs or jobs with unusual hours; increase in demand for goods, leading to supply problems; A significant and lasting slowdown in Chinese growth, which should help reduce the supply problems.
