What has changed significantly in the United Kingdom since Brexit (and COVID)?

The United Kingdom has been hit by the dual shock of Brexit and COVID. What significant changes have resulted from this dual shock? Have there been any positive developments that could have resulted from the decision to leave the European Union? We look at: The evolution of UK foreign trade: has trade with non-European countries substituted for trade with the EU? The evolution of f oreign direct investment and corporate investment: has the United Kingdom become more attractive to investors? The situation in the labour market: has the decline in the number of workers from Europe been offset by job creation for Britons? Has the purchasing power of Britons been boosted by the fall in immigration? The economic modernisation and innovation effort: has it increased? Has there been any reshoring back to the United Kingdom? Employment in “sophisticated” sectors: has it increased? Altogether, there are many negative developments : F all in trade with the EU not offset by an increase in trade with the rest of the world; Fall in d irect investment and in corporate investment; Fall in i mmigration, in the employment rate and in the participation rate, leading to a sharp increase in wages; A growing corporate modernisation and R&D shortfall; Fall in s ophisticated employment, although not in financial services.
