What is currently perceived as risky?

How the various asset prices and risk premia have reacted to the coronavirus crisis tells us which financial assets are currently perceived as high-risk and low-risk. We look at: OECD country equities; Emerging country equities; Emerging country bonds; Peripheral euro-zone country bonds; OECD corporate bonds. OECD bank bonds. We find that: Equities (in OECD and emerging countries) and High Yield bonds are perceived as high-risk; Emerging country bonds, Investment Grade corporate bonds and bank bonds are perceived as medium-risk; Peripheral euro-zone country bonds are perceived as low-risk. This illustrates the roles of monetary policies and investor regulations.
