What is the current impact of energy prices on the French inflation?

We analyze in this report the recent impact of oil, natural gas and electricity prices on inflation through the energy component of the harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP). The energy component's contribution to headline inflation has surged in recent years, mainly due to the magnitude of the energy price fluctuations and the increase of the energy share in the total households spending. According to our model and the expected energy prices for the next 6 quarters, the contribution of the energy component to the headline inflation will remain within a range of 0. 1 pp to 0.4 pp , lower than the average observed in 2023 (0.6 pp).
