When dangerous situations arise in the United States, the world curiously buys dollars
In 2008-2009, the subprime crisis ( which started from the property and securitisation market in the United States) led to investor s return ing to assets in dollars and to an appreciation of the dollar. Currently, the policie s conducted by Donald Trump (fiscal stimulus at full employment, protectionism) will have negative effects on the US economy; and yet, once again, assets in dollars are used as safe-haven assets and the dollar is appreciating. Curiously , problems in the United States therefore lead to purchases of assets in dollars that are used as safe-haven assets.
