Who owns French companies? Do they lack equity?

Two questions are often raised in France , concerning : R ising non-resident ownership of French companies, entailing a loss of control of these companies; A possible shortfall of equity among French companies, which could also result from insufficient savings in the form of equities among the French. This leads us to examine the ownership structure of listed and unlisted French c ompanies as well as the evolution of the size of their equity. We find: A very high weight of non-residents in the ownership of listed and unlisted equities in France; But a very high level of equity among French companies relative to their debt.
