Why are US banks stronger than euro-zone banks?

US banks are now markedly stronger than euro-zone banks (higher profitability, return on equity and market capitalisation). This is because: US banks are suffering less from the decline in intermediation margins than European banks (they have less credit in their balance sheets, interest rates are higher in the United States); US banks keep little credit in their balance sheet s , their capital requirements are low.
