Why we should be concerned about the US economy

The US economy has strong points in this crisis, in particular the very significant weight of the new-technology sector and the dollar's safe-haven role, which makes it possible to finance a huge fiscal deficit thanks to strong international demand for the dollar. But we should not forget that the US economy will suffer heavily from: The lasting deterioration in major industries in the United States (automotive, aeronautics); The surge in unemployment, leading to a sharp rise in household defaults on loans and therefore to a weakening of banks; Oil and gas prices, which for a long time may remain lower than the prices that ensure profitable shale oil and gas production in the United States.
