Dish quick hit: Dish files for extension on 800MHz
Dish filed with the DOJ for permission to extend its option to acquire the 800MHz spectrum from T-Mobile until June 2024. They state that they don’t have the funding to purchase the spectrum now; the lack of funding is due to factors beyond their control; extending the option would be beneficial to Dish’s competitiveness, and therefore in the public interest (based on a very quick skim of the document). We don’t have a view yet on whether T-Mobile opposes the extension (we assume they oppose), or whether the DOJ is likely to grant it. We hope to have insights on both when we host our call on the Dish / EchoStar merger tomorrow at 10AM.DISH Network is a holding company. Through its subsidiaries, the company operates two business segments: Pay-TV and Wireless. The company provides pay-TV services under: the DISH? brand, which consists of, among other things, Federal Communications Commission licenses authorizing the company to use direct broadcast satellite and Fixed Satellite Service spectrum, the company's owned and leased satellites, and certain other assets utilized in the company's operations; and the Sling? brand, which consists of, among other things, live-linear streaming over-the-top Internet-based domestic, international and Latino video programming services.
