CIS Economic Update - Local FX Feeling the Pain

Ruble weakness and the recent collapse of the Turkish lira sent ripples across CIS currencies. Besides the Russian ruble, which is down by more than 6% since the end of July, most affected by the volatility have been the Kazakh, Belarusian and Georgian currencies. The Azeri manat and Tajik somoni, though still pegged to the dollar, have been under pressure as well. Meanwhile, thanks to domestic factors, the Armenian dram and Ukrainian hryvnia have been the least affected.
