CIS EUROBOND MARKETIn the Russian sovereign Eurobond market, locals continued buying at the long end yesterday, while nonresidents were mostly selling there. The top performers were the Russia 42 (+0.6 pp) and Russia 43 (+0.4 pp).GOVERNMENT DEBTThe OFZ market took its cue from the ruble yesterday. Yields climbed 3 bps in the morning when the currency was weakening but later pulled back to previous levels when it recovered. Trading volumes totaled R23 bln, half of which was attributable to the 11y OFZ 26218. Russia FX/Rates Snapshot - March 24, 2022. Ruble Could Take a Pause After Sharp Gains

This morning, the ruble has weakened somewhat offshore, sliding to USD/RUB 98, whereas on the Moscow Exchange it is trading at 95.5. In focus today will be EU and NATO summits at which comments about Russia's plan to switch to ruble settlement for gas could be forthcoming. It is possible that the rhetoric toward Russia will become harsher. Against this backdrop, we think the ruble's advance will take a pause and that it will remain around 96.
