ODDO BHF SECURITIES MORNING NEWS – DETAILED COMMENTS 05/16/2024

We have tactically downgraded the energy sector from Overweight to Neutral (excl. oil services on which we are maintaining our Overweight rating) and dropped Shell Plc from our Large Caps list. OTE has reported a weak set of results; revenue is c8% ahead of consensus expectations, but the beat is thanks to low margin ICT revenue, and EBITDAaL is c-2% light. Cost control in Greece has been poor, and SR trends are slower in Greece.

Vodafone’s FY results have less to unpack than usual, with Spain and Italy now treated as discontinued items, as a sign of the ongoing simplification of the group. New guidance given for FY25 looks supportive and is marginally ahead of consensus.

German spectrum auction Evidence of pragmatic telecoms regulation

BNetzA’s latest proposal for the German spectrum auction might well now be close to the final outcome, and delays the uncertainty of an auction and potential large cash outflows until 2030 for all German operators. This seems a further example of pragmatic regulation in the European telecoms sector.

Telenor (Buy, TP: NOK145, +14%) Q1 24: Good numbers, impressive FCF g...

Telenor has reported a good set of Q1 numbers, with SR and EBITDA c1% ahead, and FCF 49% ahead. FY24 guidance has not been lifted (but has been reiterated) despite the good Q1 numbers, with phasing of payments/items to impact FCF throughout the rest of the year, and this is perhaps a little disappointing, but momentum is clearly with Telenor at present, and if current trends persist, then guidance and estimates will move up.
