Hologic Posts Mixed 3Q Results; Stymied by Flat Growth of Recently Acquired Cynosure
Narrow-moat Hologic’s third-quarter results were a mixed bag that generally fell within our expectations, and we are reiterating our $45 fair value estimate after making slight adjustments to our projections. Adjusted for the sale of the blood-screening unit and currency, Hologic’s continuing business grew 3% year over year. The results were marred by a somewhat disappointing showing from Cynosure, Hologic’s medical aesthetics business that it acquired for $1.65 billion back in February. The company's segments are: Diagnostics, which provides diagnostic products which are used to aid in the diagnosis of human diseases; Breast Health, which provides solutions for breast cancer care for radiology, pathology and surgery; Medical Aesthetics, which provides aesthetic treatment systems, including SculpSure, PicoSure and MonaLisa Touch; GYN Surgical, which includes NovaSure Endometrial Ablation System to treat abnormal uterine bleeding; and Skeletal Health, which includes the Horizon DXA, a dual energy x-ray system.
