Repsol Brings No Surprises in Second Quarter as Downstream Remains Largest Source of Earnings
Repsol's second-quarter results brought no surprises, as adjusted earnings increased to EUR 496 million from EUR 345 million last year. The downstream segment, which, in our opinion, benefits from an unsustainable strong refining environment in Europe, contributed most of this quarter's earnings, namely 86% or EUR 429 million. Higher utilization rates in refineries were partially offset by lower margins owing to narrower crude and gasoline spreads, while the chemicals business saw higher margins...Repsol is an oil and gas company.
