Wire Tap - Speaking of the Smart Speaker
In this edition of Wire Tap, we focus on the prospects of Yandex's smart speaker, Yandex.Station. We see it as offering generous value for customers, as the services included may ultimately exceed the price of the device itself. We think that Yandex.Station has the potential to reach 1 mln households by the end of 2019 and cumulative sales of 7.5 mln by the end of 2022. That ultimately may contribute R30 bln to Yandex's revenues per annum through annual subscriptions and device sales, in our view, while Yandex could also earn commissions from its content partners. In addition, it could well drive greater usage of Yandex's e-commerce, transportation and video-streaming services. We see limited competition for Yandex.Station. Other news covered in this edition includes Yandex's e-commerce, taxi and car-sharing, video streaming, Mail.ru's live quiz, QIWI's partnership with Revolut, Megafon's retail, VEON's new marketplace, telecom investments in IT, and MVNO.Mail.Ru Group is an Internet company based in the Russian Federation.
